Custom website
A custom website is written for one business rather than assembled from a template or a platform's parts. It usually means hand-coded HTML, CSS and JavaScript: every line deliberate, nothing loading that the design does not need, and a finished site you own outright — code, domain, hosting and email in your name.

What makes it custom
It is written against your business: your offer, your visitors, your enquiry route. Not a theme with a logo dropped in, and not a platform's defaults — so the pages carry only what the design needs, which is why they load fast and behave predictably.
Custom vs template vs builder
- Template: a pre-made layout you fill in — cheap, and visibly generic.
- Builder: a platform that assembles pages for you — easy to edit, and rented: stop paying and the site comes down.
- Custom: written for you — more up front, owned outright, portable to any host.
What it costs
Custom is a method, not a price point: a small hand-coded site can cost less than a bloated template build, and a large one more. We quote one fixed price per project; our 2026 market research puts small business websites between $1,000 and $15,000 depending on scope. See what a website costs.
Who it suits
Businesses that want a fast, ownable site built once and handed over — not a platform to run. If you edit the site daily yourself and never want a developer involved, a builder may genuinely fit; we say so when we think that is the better call.
Questions
Is a custom website more expensive than a website builder?
Usually more up front, cheaper from year two, and owned outright. A builder subscription can start cheaper — around $120 a month is about $4,300 over three years — but the site exists only while you pay. The honest comparison is what you keep at the end, not the first invoice.
Can I edit a custom website myself?
Yes for text and images, if you are comfortable in code. If you would rather not, edits are quoted as small fixed-price pieces, or we add a simple editor for the parts that change often — menus and prices are the usual candidates.
